In one of my long car rides with a good friend of mine and a veteran lacrosse coach, we talked about poor coaching. What is it that makes some coaches “bad”? And we were not talking about the coaches who have losing records rather we were looking at the coaches who just don’t “get it”.

This March Madness, one the most talked about moments was this exchange between Michigan State Tom Izzo and Aaron Henry during a timeout in the first-round game. Our leagues adhere to the code of conduct for players, coaches and parents provide by US Lacrosse and Positive Coaching Alliance. All coaches and youth players (boys & girls) are required to become members of US Lacrosse. High school players are not required, but encouraged to become members.

US Lacrosse is committed to the principles of “Honoring the Game” and works in partnership with Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) to provide tools and resources to the lacrosse community for this purpose. PCA is a national non-profit organization based at Stanford University with a mission to “transform youth sports so sports can transform youth.”
